A man who allegedly threw a corrosive substance at a friend who was granted bail

A MAN, who allegedly threw a corrosive substance at his friend, was placed on $ 100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he made an appearance at Georgetown Magistrates Court to plead to the relevant charge.

Orin Thomas, of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge ‘Causing serious bodily harm’. The charge alleged that Thomas, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, in East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, inflicted grievous bodily harm to Shawn Bristol.

According to the facts, Bristol and Thomas were friends. However, their friendship erupted when Bristol became friends with Thomas’ ex-girlfriend. On the day in question, Thomas began ringing Bristol’s mobile phone continuously.

After receiving numerous calls from Thomas, Bristol went to Thomas’ home, where a dispute broke out between the two men. Thomas, in full rage, threw a corrosive substance at Bristol. Citizens of a public spirit, who had witnessed the suffering, rushed to aid Bristol.

Bristol reported the matter to East Ruimveldt Police Outpost, where the witnesses submitted written statements. Further investigations were carried out, which led to Thomas’s arrest. Thomas was taken into custody and charged with the offense. The matter was adjourned until Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
