Airport contractor agrees to spend US $ 9M on additional works – News Room Guyana

The Ministry of Public Works on Tuesday entered into an agreement with China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) for additional work by CHEC at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) up to approximately US $ 9M at the sole cost of China Harbor Engineering Company.

The new work will include:

  • Extension of the Airport residential corridor to accommodate two other passenger boarding bridges, providing a total of six boarding bridges to the Airport capable of servicing aircraft such as the Boeing 777, Dreamliner, AirBus and transatlantic aircraft similar.
  • Terminal Building extended to provide additional commercial space such as food courts and duty free shops. The expanded building will feature a modern airport facade covering the full length of the Exit Terminal.
  • China Harbor Engineering Company has further agreed to rectify and complete all remaining remediation within prescribed timelines. [The government is spending no additional financing on this aspect]

It was agreed that the entire work would be completed by 31st December 2021.

The Agreement was signed by a Permanent Secretary, Mr. Vladim Persaud, of the Ministry of Public Works on behalf of the Government of Guyana and Mr. Liu Keliang, Project Manager for and on behalf of China Harbor Engineering Company Limited.
