Albouystown man charged with theft of gun in custody

An Albouystown man on multiple charges involving ‘Robbery Under Arms’ was remanded in prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The first charge alleged that on Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Sheriff Street, Kitty, Georgetown, the accused was in the company of another and armed with a dangerous weapon, specifically a gun, had stolen Anthony Rodrigues from several of mobile phones priced $ 1,900,000.

The second charge alleged that on the same day and at the said location, the accused had been in the company of another and armed with a dangerous weapon, specifically a gun, had stolen Thelbert Seales from one Iphone mobile phone ‘ X ‘worth $ 90,000. Joshua Browne pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him. According to the facts, Browne is known to the victims of that area, and on the day in question, he, along with his assistant, went into Rodrigues’ place of business, armed with a gun. Browne allegedly pointed the gun toward the victims and released them from their mobile phones.

Browne and his assistant then fled the scene. It was further mentioned that Browne was shot and wounded. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical attention, and then taken into police custody. There, he was alerted, cautioned and charged with the crime. During his time of caution, Browne admitted committing the crime. Police also received information that Browne was shot and wounded by his assistant. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan ordered Browne to be remanded in prison, and adjourned the matter until Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
