The body of 74-year-old Deodat, named ‘John’, a pensioner at Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, was found floating face down in a ditch at Hampton Court on Saturday.
Police Headquarters said they were investigating the matter as an alleged drowning and described Deodat as a “known alcoholic.”
The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between Wednesday, January 6, 2021 and Saturday, January 9, 2021. According to a police report, Deodat visited his daughter’s house last Wednesday around 17:15h; at the time, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The girl claimed that he left about 17:30 h later to go home but never arrived and so family members became anxious and started looking for him.
On Saturday around 06:30h, family members found Deodat floating in the trench. Deodat was taken to Suddie Public Hospital where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.
The body at Suddie’s Mortuary is awaiting a post mortem examination.
