Another death from COVID-19, 33 new cases were recorded

GUYANA now has a total of 169 deaths caused by the virus, COVID-19, following the death of a 39-year-old man from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The Ministry of Health also confirmed the death of 59-year-old People / Civic Progressive Party (PPP / C) stalwart Majeed Hussain, who died Saturday morning of COVID-19 complications. Both men died while being cared for in a medical facility. Five COVID-19 deaths have been recorded for the year to date.

In addition, Guyana recorded 33 new cases of people infected with this virus, according to the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard for Sunday. These new cases take the total confirmed cases in Guyana since March 2020, when the first outbreak was recorded, to 6,574.

These new cases were recorded by 17 men and 16 women. The new cases were also distributed across Region One (Barima-Waini) one; Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam) two; Three (Essequibo-West Demerara Islands) four; Four (Demerara-Mahaica) 17; Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) two; Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) one; Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) one; and Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice) five. These cases were recorded from 547 tests.

There are currently 402 active cases, the five persons in the COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 50 in institutional isolation, 33 in institutional quarantine, and 314 detached at home. An additional 17 people have recovered from testing positive for COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,036.

The updated COVID-19 Emergency Measures are in force from January 1, 2021, until January 31, 2021. Everyone is required to wear face masks when leaving their homes. Adequate physical distance and cleanliness are also important. The current curfew time is 22:30 to 04:00h.
