Armed raiders invade Port Mourant’s home

Police are investigating an armed robbery committed on Parbattie Etwaroo, 53, a Guyanese from abroad; and his 33-year-old niece, Swarsattie Narain, salesman, Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

Etwaroo, a Canadian citizen, was in the living room when she was confronted by a handgun-armed bandit at about 08:00 hours on January 15.

In a statement released by police today, it was explained that the bandit told Etwaroo not to move and then hit her in the head with the gun.

He then took her to the bedroom and demanded that she hand over all her money and personal belongings.

The frightened woman complied with the bandit’s demands.

Meanwhile, a second culprit stood nearby and held the woman’s niece at knife point.

After recovering the valuables, the thieves made their escape on foot.

The family were robbed of about GY $ 50,000 in cash, some $ 500 in Canadian currency, several gold jewelery, and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone.
