Last night a 40-year-old laborer from Old Road La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was attacked by two robbers who robbed him of his $ 27,000 Alcatel cellphone.
John Benjamin was sitting under a shed on La Retraite Public Road, when about 20 men arrived at about 20: 30 hours.
The duo asked for a man named “Devon” to whom the victim explained that he does not know anyone of that name.
Subsequently, one of the perpetrators grabbed the neck and pulled his phone out of his hands.
The victim tried to resist, however, the other bandit whipped a knife and smashed it under his jaw.
The two suspects then ran to a waiting motor car nearby and made amends for their escape.
The victim was able to raise an alarm and was escorted to the Wales Police Station where a report was made. The man was subsequently escorted to West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
