A 32-year-old businessman from Gap Road, La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara (WCD) and a 40-year-old laborer from Old Road, La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD) were robbed by armed robbers on Tuesday at separate locations.
Reports are that at about 19: 20h on Tuesday, the businessman robbed a December $ 60,000 cash, one gold ring worth $ 20,000, one 8-pro Redmi Note worth $ 65,000, and a sum of Digicel and GTT worth $ 15,000. This incident occurred in Cornelia Ida, WCD.
Police say December was in its minimart in Cornelia Ida when the armed men yelled at him. The man told Police he observed two men entering his place of business, and immediately one whipped a handgun and told him to remain silent. Shortly after, the second suspect began releasing his valuables, after which they both escaped.
The armed man fired a shot at escape.
And John Benjamin, 40, was attacked by two armed robbers on Tuesday at around 20:30h on La Retraite Public Road, Demerara West Bank.
According to reports, while sitting under a shed on La Retraite Public Road, the laborer was robbed of his $ 27,000 Alcatel cellphone. Police say two men approached him and asked for a man named “Devon”, to which he responded that he does not know anyone of that name.
One of the men then grabbed the laborer by his neck and pulled the phone out of his hands. The victim reported he tried to resist, but the other bandit whipped a knife and cut it under his jaw.
The two suspects then ran to a motor car waiting nearby, and made amends.
The victim was able to raise an alarm and was escorted to the Wales Police Station, where she reported the matter. He was then taken to West Demerara Regional Hospital for medical attention. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
