Cocaine busted woman remanded – News Room Guyana

A 30-year-old woman, who was nabbed while trying to smuggle cocaine through Eugene F. Correia International Airport in Ogle, on Friday was being held in jail.

Pathrina Pilgrim of Lot 2 ‘C’ North Road, Bourda, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Details of the allegation alleged that on January 27, the Pilgrim had 534 grams of cocaine in her possession for human trafficking purposes. Magistrate Daly remanded the Pilgrim to prison until February 19, 2021.

Pilgrim, a mother of two, was arrested by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks after she was caught trying to transport cocaine from Georgetown, Guyana to Brooklyn, New York.

The parcels of cocaine were found hidden in the false bottom of a box of snacks that Pilgrim tried to transport abroad. The box was intercepted before being loaded on a flight at Ogle Airport.

The box contained packages of local snacks, including a coconut biscuit, mitts, chicken foot, and a packet of uncooked vermicelli.
