Dr. Tariq Jagnarine now heads the National AIDS Program Secretariat – Guyana Newsroom

Dr. Tariq Jagnarine, who served as Senior Registrar and General Practitioner of General Practice at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), is the new Program Manager of the National AIDS Program Secretariat (NAPS).

His appointment took effect on January 4 2020, a day before Guyana launched a new National HIV Strategic Plan (2021 – 2025)

He replaces Dr. Rhonda Moore took up post following the resignation of Dr Shanti Singh in September 2016.

The Newsroom understands that Dr. Moore, who was seconded back in 2016 from the Care and Treatment Center, formerly the GPHC GUM Clinic, has returned to head the Center.

In a brief email to stakeholders, Dr. Moore: “I would like to thank you all for the kind support given to the NAPS in leading the HIV response during my tenure. Much appreciated. ”

It is said that Dr. Jagnarine, who is pursuing his Masters Degree in Endocrinology at Queen Mary University, London, is enthusiastic about his new role as NAPS Program Manager.

She graduated in November 2019 from the University of Guyana’s Postgraduate Family Medicine – a training program that trains doctors in the art and science of primary healthcare.

He also pursued a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Medical Sciences in Cuba and did General Biology at the University of Guyana.

As a Medical Physician, Dr, Jagnarine worked as a Resident Physician at the GPHC and a Medical Supervisor at Mabaruma Regional Hospital.
