New Amsterdam beauty pageant, Ederle Stephen, is set to represent Guyana today in the Miss Caricom Pageant, where she will be competing with young women from many other Caribbean countries.
Miss Caricom Pageant was nearly canceled this year as a result of the pandemic, but the organization decided to go on airing the competition more or less.
Ederle said that although she was somewhat overwhelmed by the late contact made with her to represent Guyana, she did not let that get the better of her and is confident that she will be a frontrunner of the competition, or better yet Miss Caricom 2020.
The 21-year-old girl shared that she received a call last week asking her to represent Guyana in the pageant. The current Miss World Guyana (MWG) semi-finalist who had been eagerly awaiting this year’s canceled MWG competition could not pass up the opportunity.
A third-year medical student at American University of Texila, Ederle is currently attending online classes that made preparing for the competition all the more challenging. She basically works round the clock to bring home the crown. However, she credits her hardworking team for getting it this far. “Along with my team and all the support I get, I feel very positive about the outcome, knowing also that I am putting my best foot forward,” said the Berbician.
He said he could not have gotten this far without his sponsors as well; Sueria Manufacturing Inc., Shauna’s New Look Salon, Dahlia l’artista, and Palm Court.
For one of the categories, Ederle says, competitors could choose to do business or talent and she chose the latter. She will make an interpretive piece. The task is to tell a story concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. He decided to make a piece expressing how the pandemic has affected the creative industry.
The dance number is a collaborative effort by three people. “In the dance she is trying to sell her art proudly only to realize that because of the pandemic, she has been painting very dark and sad paintings and not so great. She is frustrated at not being able to bag one customer. She is losing her living. Along the sad path she finds the ability and strength to carry on her craft more or less, ”a statement on the description of the piece recited. The dance is performed to an edited version of “Color Me” by Guyanese Juke Ross. It was conceptualized by designer Randy Madray, choreographed by Kelton Jennings, and filmed by Anthony Indar. Meanwhile, the track was created by Mix Master, Tony Bowen.
Ederle will compete in the categories of Swimwear, Evening Gown, and Presentation and the top three contestants will have a chance in the Intelligence Segment, which will determine the winner. The Presentation and Intelligence categories will be made live.
The queen will be presented with the Miss Caricom 2020 crown, be weighed, and receive a trip to the United States while the winners of the various categories will also receive prizes.
