ExxonMobil begins drilling first well at Canje Block – News Room Guyana

The Guyana Government has welcomed the announcement by Westmount Energy that a large US oil company ExxonMobil has begun drilling at the Bulletwood-1 well in the Canje Block, offshore Guyana.

The Bulletwood well-1 is the first to be drilled in the Canje block. ExxonMobil had said it had about three wells to be drilled there.

Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat said the well was ruined by the Stena Carron exercise that began drilling on December 31, 2020, at a water depth of 2,846 meters.

“The Ministry of Natural Resources is pleased with these reports, and looks forward to further prospects for exploration and production in this area,” said Minister Bharrat.

The Canje Block lies some 180km offshore Guyana in deep to deep waters with an area of approximately 4800 sq km. It is operated by ExxonMobil with a 35 percent interest while Total has 35 percent interest, JHI 17.5 percent, and Mid-Atlantic Oil and Gas Incorporated interest 12.5 percent.

The Minister said that Bulletwood-1 is targeting around 500 million barrels of oil.

According to Westmount, Bulletwood-1 is a 500 MMbbl oil prospect that targets a similar-looking Late Cretaceous, Campaniaian Liza limited channel complex.
