Icardi fires PSG into the French Cup semis, Monaco beat Lyon

PARIS, (Reuters) – The Mauro Icardi striker scored a hat-trick as Paris St Germain eased into the semi-finals of the French Cup with a decisive 5-0 win over Angers and were joined by Monaco MP with a 2-0 win over 10-man Olympique Lyonnais yesterday.

Icardi’s early strike for PSG was followed by an own goal by Angers defender Vincent Manceau and a simple third header by Neymar in the second half, before the Argentine striker added two more.

The defending champions, who have appeared in the last six French Cup finals, won five, leading within nine minutes with an excellent team goal that Icardi finished from a pin point through Julian Draxler.

There was a good fortune for the second as Neymar’s shot from goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle came close, before bouncing on Manchester and back into the net.

Neymar headed in from close range before Angel Di Maria’s brilliant boxing run put Icardi in second, who added another late for his fifth goal in the last three games.

Lyon dominated the first half against the Monaco visitors but were held scoreless, and the game slipped out of control early in the second period.

Maxwel Cornet Lyon had a goal that was correctly disregarded for miscarriage, before Sinaly Diomande was sent away for a second offense that can be booked for her penalty-giving role.

Wissam converted Ben Yedder from the spot for Monaco and set up Kevin Volland for a thunderous strike to make it 2-0. Earlier Lyon had lost coach Rudi Garcia to a red card after a show of disagreement with referee Stephanie Frappart.

Montpellier and fourth division Rumilly-Vallières, who stunned second-tier Toulouse on Tuesday, are the other sides to reach the semi-finals.
