COVID-19 immunization continues in the South Asian country and the government is currently basing its vaccination program on two approved vaccines: COVISHIELD, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine produced by the Indian Serum Institute, and COVAXIN, an indigenous manufactured vaccine developed. by Bharat Biotech in Hyderabad and the Medical Research Council of India.

“Our scientists have been working day and night decoding the coronavirus and have successfully developed the vaccine in record time and with this achievement, our scientists have added a glorious chapter of contribution to the well-being of humanity,” he said the High Commissioner. as he delivered remarks from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

He added: “Our scientists, along with doctors, administrators and people from other backgrounds, have made major contributions in containing the virus and keeping the death rate lower in our country, compared to that in developed countries. ”

MASSIVE VACCINATION DRIVER

India is currently undertaking a massive vaccination campaign, using vaccines it has produced, to immunize its population against the new coronavirus. Last week, the Government of India sent more than 3.2 million free vaccine doses to Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives. Donations to Mauritius, Myanmar and Seychelles are expected to follow, while Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are next on the list. The loads of vaccines reflect one of India’s strengths – it is home to a robust vaccine industry, including the Indian Serum Institute, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of vaccines.

The High Commissioner also pointed out that India has been able to move from the pandemic to key reforms and development, aimed at improving the lives of its citizens.
