Leon Seaton is the fastest 16-year-old Guyanese in the pool.

Kaieteur News – Olympic swimming hopefuls Guyana, Andrew Fowler and Leon Seaton, represented Guyana at the CONSANAT South American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina which ended March 29.
Both athletes competed in the 50M and 100M freestyle as well as the 50M Butterfly events at the championships.
Leon’s time of 24.84 in freestyle is Guyana’s record, improving his previous best of 25.15 to beat his compatriot Andrew Fowler and become the youngest Guyanese to swim so fast.

Leon also recorded times of 28.62 in the 50 Fly and 56.05 in the 100 Free in Buenos Aires.
“My experience in Argentina was a great one and I hope to continue my training and produce great results. I achieved a new personal best in my 50M freestyle and it was amazing, ”revealed the talented 16-year-old Silver Shark Aquatic Club member.
Leon revealed that the pandemic has had no major effects on him despite stopping some of his training days. But he was quick to add that that wasn’t a big obstacle for him.
“Florida currently contains the virus. They administer Vaccines throughout the state to anyone aged 18 or over but soon Vaccines will be available for 16 year olds and I believe the virus will be controlled. Everyone is told to wear their mask in public and continue to sanitize their hands, ”explained the teenage girl living in South Ruimveldt, Guyana.
Leon is currently on a five-month FINA scholarship in Florida at the Azura Florida Aquatics that started last November but has now been extended to June.

The benefits of this Scholarship vary but the biggest is having the opportunity to train with world-class Athletes who all work in harmony to qualify for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.
“Since I’ve been here I haven’t had any challenges and I’m doing well and everything is fine.
I am not disappointed in not making the Olympics qualifying yet as the qualifying period is not over and I still have a number of events before it ends in June, ”explained Leon who competed in the Patriot Winter Invitational Aquatics 2020 and clocking five new Personalities The best times (PB).
“The training schedule is tough and starts at 5am and lasts throughout the day; it also includes several sessions in pool and dryland training, ”informed the high school student St Roses.
Leon has also been doing online education to prepare himself for the academic challenge and will return in June to write his CXC exams.
“Since starting my scholarship, I have seen a lot of improvement and I recently achieved a long time to come. I still have the ability to heal and keep pushing.
The scholarship has really helped me in improving my swimming speed and techniques.
My scholarship was recently extended to June and there are two events scheduled between now and the Olympics that I am expected to attend. They both serve as qualifying matches, ”said Guyana’s fastest 16-year-old in the pool.
