Moraikobai Village is seeing an increase in COVID cases – Guyana Newsroom

Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony on Tuesday pleaded for more cooperation from Toshao and Village Council in Moraikobai, Region Five as the community continues to see an increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.

“We will have to start working with them to put in some extra measures so that we can contain the spread,” the Health Minister said during his daily COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday.

According to Dr Anthony, 33 cases were recorded from 71 samples; Moraikobai now accounts for the majority of active cases in Region Five.

“We had a team that went into the area over the weekend and we did 71 samples and we have 33 positive so we’re going to go back to the area to do a bit more testing , ”Said the minister.

A team is expected to return to the village to increase tests and if the cases continue to rise, the minister said a medical team would be deployed on site.

Region Five, on January 11, 2021, recorded a total of 113 confirmed cases of the virus. The region administration had implemented a rigorous monitoring system; Region Five was the last of the administrative districts to report positive COVID-19 cases and also continues to record the lowest number of cases
