More dorms students, teachers test positive for COVID-19 – Guyana Newsroom

– The Health Minister says that cases can be managed

Fifteen more students attending sleep schools across Guyana have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive students since schools reopened on January 4, 2021, to 45.

Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony revealed during Tuesday’s COVID-19 update that 13 teachers and other staff have so far tested positive. All the positive patients on their own are getting better and the students are also given their daily worksheets to continue their education.

The Health Minister said the current outbreak was manageable as the ministry was co-operating with the regional education officials to ensure measures were in place for both students and teachers.

As testing continues, the ministry expects the number to increase as more students are expected to return to school.

Institutional isolation facilities across the regions are being used to treat the patients; the minister had announced that tests were mandatory for students returning to sleeping schools.

Schools for Grades 10, 11 and 12 reopened in November 2020 while virtual learning and other forms of learning continued for other students.
