The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had advised the Police to conduct further investigations urgently before deciding whether to charge a 16-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting his best friend, 15-year-old Rockey Sawh.
Police have received this advice since November 2020 and have also been instructed to prepare and submit a trial report on the alleged shooter. But nearly two months later, the Police are still returning the file to the DPP for further legal advice.

Dying: Rockey Sawh

Police investigations revealed that the 16-year-old suspect had invited Sawh over to his home and that the two friends had a meal around 18:00 hrs. After eating, the suspect allegedly broke a locked wardrobe lock in which a licensed Taurus .32 pistol owned by his father was secured.
Police said that after recovering the gun, the youth then showed it to Sawh and accidentally pulled the trigger. As a result, Sawh was shot to the right side of his head and fell to the ground. He was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition; died.
According to Police, at the time of the accident, the suspect’s parents were not at home. A Taurus .32 pistol along with seven live mating rounds, an obsolete shell and 149 .32 rounds were recovered from the scene, Police said.
The dead boy’s family, especially his bereaved mother, Amrita Panday, has called the Police out for being slow in investigations. Meanwhile, the alleged shooter is awaiting $ 100,000 station bail.
