Police say social media post of attempted abduction is “fake”

Division Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Police Manager Crystal Robinson has stated that the post suggesting an attempted abduction carried out in Anna Regina was false.
The post alleged that three women were the victims of an attempted kidnapping by two armed men.
The person who shared the post said that the story had been told to them by one of the victims.
The social media post stated that the victim left her home at about 07:30h on Saturday to work. She had probably joined a taxi that already had three passengers – two female and one male.
The post further noted that as the woman arrived at her destination, the driver refused to stop the vehicle and as a result, the women became angry and began to defend themselves.
As a result of the commotion, the car was intercepted by a group of officers in front of Suddie Police Station where the women were “rescued”.
The post further alleged that the driver and his assistant were taken into custody and under investigation. But Superintendent Robinson in a phone interview with Guyana Times on Sunday refuted the social media post.
“We are not dealing with mischievous persons; we deal with facts … There is no such thing in our region, “he explained. He noted that no report had been made with the Police and that a team of Police Officers did not rescue the alleged abduction victims at any time.
In a subsequent statement, the Guyana Police Public Relations Unit noted that no such report had been made to the Police in the region. The statement further advised persons to refrain from causing public panic by spreading false information.
