Roy from England joins Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL side to replace Marsh

(Reuters) – English opener Jason Roy has joined Indian Premier League (IPL) side Sunrisers Hyderabad in place of Mitchell Marsh of Australia, the league said yesterday.

Marsh, who made his first IPL appearance in 2010 having played a total of 21 games, is making himself unavailable for the 2021 season starting next month due to personal reasons.

He was ruled out of the 2020 campaign after the Sunrisers’ first game due to an ankle injury and was replaced by Jason Holder of the West Indies.

The IPL said Royris acquired it from Sunrisers for its base price of 20 million Indian rupees ($ 273,332).

Roy had opted out of the Delhi Capitals 2020 campaign for personal reasons. He has played a total of eight IPL games scoring 179 runs including half a century.

He scored 144 runs in the Twenty20 five-match series against India earlier this month before making 115 runs in three one-day internationals against the same opponents.
