COVID-19 Guidelines

Several people in Anna Regina Township, District Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), were arrested Friday for failing to wear a face mask in public.
The arrests came as the Joint Services in conjunction with the ranks of the COVID-19 Regional Task Force enforced the stated COVID-19 guidelines as identified by the Ministry of Public Health.

Section G Manager Crystal Robinson said the mask-wearing exercise will be an ongoing task in the region and as such, people found walking the road without a mask will be charged, given bail and then given a date to attend court.
The Region Manager said that masks can help prevent the spread of the virus and as such, people should be serious. He said individuals should also practice social isolation and hand hygiene.

In Region Two, 272 positive COVID-19 cases were recorded with active cases standing at 21. During the Easter holiday weekend, 27 people were arrested at resorts, beaches and lakes along the Essequibo Coast. These individuals were fined $ 30,000 for violating COVID-19 guidelines.
Earlier this week, former Health Minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy said that Guyana could only emerge from the pandemic if people adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Ministry of Health and by taking the COVID-19 vaccine.
He noted that they should be wearing a face mask every time people leave their homes and also make sure they follow the public health guidelines, adding that those who want to make wearing face masks an option make living an option.
