Two armed robbers committed a vicious robbery at the Welsh People’s Supermarket, Demerara West Bank (WBD) on Wednesday night.
Based on reports received, the robbery occurred at approximately 20: 15h and was carried out by two men – both wearing masks and armed with handguns.
Police said the supermarket owner, Xin Bang Yu, 49, a Chinese national, and his 16-year-old assistant were in the cashier’s department when the armed men entered the Supermarket and pointed their firearms at their heads.
The two robbers then demanded cash and other valuables. One of the robbers held the owner and employees at gunpoint while the other emptied the cash register which contained about $ 115,000 in cash. They also took $ 50,000 worth of phone cards.
After collecting the cash and phone cards, the right men made for an escape. An alarm was raised and the Police were contacted.
The suffering was captured on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and the photos are being reviewed by researchers as they continue their investigations.
