The decomposing body of a young man who went missing on Monday has been found floating in the Arakaka river in the Northwest District, Region One (Barima-Waini).
The body of 20-year-old Avinash Fernandes, known as ‘Avi’, was fished out of the river after being discovered by his former boss and a party of policemen. The discovery was made sometime between 7:00h and 11:45h on Thursday. According to Police, at the time of the discovery, there were no visible marks of violence on the body.

Meanwhile, District Manager Superintendent Khalid Mandall has said the body was escorted to Port Kaituma Public Hospital.
Fernandes, of Mabaruma Compound, NWD, was reported missing from his camp site at 13 Miles Trail Line Backdam, Arakaka, NWD on April 5.
He was last seen live on April 5 at around 21:00 hours.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Similarly, on April 5, the partially decomposed body of Joel Skeete, 19, was found lying upside down among the rocks along the west bank of the Demerara river in the vicinity of Belle Vue, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Skeete, a former Computer Science student at the University of Guyana, disappeared after leaving a barbershop at Demerara Harbor Bridge Bridge on March 31.
Meanwhile, an autopsy performed on Skeete’s body on April 6 determined that he died by drowning. (G15)
