Days before Christmas, when the Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara area is extremely busy, a large portion of the road collapsed on Tuesday due to unnatural causes.
In fact, it was later discovered that a roamer lived under the structure.

Big hole being repaired

Ministry of Public Works Minister Deodat Indar said via his social media page that work is being started to repair the damages.
The structure was weakened after man dug sand and endangered the maintenance system.
“There appears to be a man living under the bridge who continues to dig the sand from the roadside, causing it to weaken and break away,” the Minister explained.
As a result of the regular traffic congestion on the Westside, immediate efforts were made to repair the breach.
In 2018, the 30.7 kilometer road was commissioned on the WCD from Vreed-en-Hoop to Hydronie.
