The development will touch every community – President Ali – Guyana Newsroom

President Irfaan Ali is confident that creating opportunities in the country will be spread across all regions and will touch every community.

The Head of State gave this assurance during an online program on Friday with Farook Juman, a Guyanese Radio Broadcaster from the United States, where he outlined his Government’s development agenda.

“Just telling the diaspora that creating opportunities in every region … it won’t be centralized in Georgetown or Region Four.”

President Ali explained that the development will first focus on a community level, to ensure that citizens have improved access to basic services, this will then be linked to a wider regional and national plan – a three tier system.

“We have to understand, first and foremost, that a major transformation will happen at a community level; it is to improve healthcare systems, improve road networks, educational facilities and sports facilities. ”

The Head of State said that his Government will place particular emphasis on community needs and ensure that it creates “growth opportunities, or growth hubs within a cluster of communities that can generate employment, creating tier one sustainable development”.

Tier two, the President explained, will then consider regional development plans that will focus on key investment opportunities.

“Let’s take, for example Region Three, you will see a huge investment on the banks of the Demerara River in Region Three that will create huge opportunities and the impact of cheating. You will see agro facilities, agro-processing facilities being developed. You will find more use of the Essequibo River in terms of investment hubs. This, of course, will create various growth poles. ”

He also said that regional developmental infrastructure will be linked to national transformational infrastructure. This includes the new four-lane highway from the Harbor Bridge that extends all the way to Parika, the opening of the Welsh Development Agency as well as the landing of the onshore gas pipeline in Wales..

President Ali noted that this development will not only be linked to power generation, but other growth paths, including the production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as well as the introduction of Protein Equipment in the region. He stressed that this massive transformation will have other knock-on effects including ‘population push’ which will then be supported by the Government’s robust housing program.

According to the President, Many other development programs are earmarked for different communities; these include the introduction of solar power on the Leguan and Wakenaam islands that will be tied to the national grid.

With regard to Region Five, the Head of State advised that plans were under way for the development of a national aquaculture master plan.

“The national aquaculture masterplan will see major investment in aquaculture along Region Five. And here’s another one of the designs you’ll soon see taking shape. “

President Ali reminded Mr Juman of the Corentyne River transition into Region Six that falls within the third tier of the National Development Agenda. This initiative emphasized that it will create a new logistics hub linked to private sector development on the Berbice River that includes the plans for a deepwater port.

President Ali then turned his attention to the plans for Region 10 which he said will be multidimensional and which will place an emphasis on job creation.

“Then we move to Region 10. How do we catalyze the bauxite industry? How do I make Region 10 a hub to serve the mining sector? You come all the way sometimes to Georgetown for machining services, for engineering services, for welding services. How do we create that hub and network in Region Ten? And then how do we support household income, increasing household income? And that’s new income I’m talking about. ”

The Head of State also assured the diaspora that there were plenty of opportunities in Guyana and that they should return home to invest.

He also thanked them for their numerous calls and letters in the months following the election and indicated that he was grateful for the part they played in ensuring democracy was dominant.
