A 40-year-old laborer was on Friday detained in prison for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with his seven-year-old daughter. The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared in Demerara’s West Coast court.
He is alleged, between December 1 and 31, 2020, engaged in sexual activity with a child family member. The case continues on Jan. 21.
Reports are that the man sexually abused his daughter and 10-year-old son. Reports are that the children were living with the accused and their mother, who is said to be mentally ill. They live in shackles in a settlement along the Demerara River.
It was reported that whenever the man drank alcohol, he would sexually abuse the children.
According to information, the children recently trusted their father with a breach and a report was made to the Child Care and Protection Agency. An investigation was launched immediately and officers went to the children’s home.
The girl and her brother were taken into special care as Police were called in to carry out investigations. It was reported that they were also being taken for medical examinations which confirmed that they had been sexually abused. Their father was arrested and charged.
