… 34 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health has revealed that another person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died.
This now takes the total number of deaths from the viral illness in Guyana to 175.
According to the Ministry, the latest death is a 65-year-old man from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) who died Wednesday while being cared for at a medical facility.
Just on Tuesday, Guyana recorded two more COVID-19 deaths after the death of a 74-year-old man from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice) and a 58-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). The week began with the death toll of COVID-19 in 172.

New cases
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health also reported Wednesday that 34 new coronavirus cases had been recorded in the last 24 hours out of some 262 tests conducted.
According to the Ministry’s updated COVID-19 dashboard, the total confirmed cases in the country are now 7380 – 3791 men and 3589 women.
But only 718 of these are currently active cases. These include six patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the remaining 712 on their own – 49 people institutionalized and the other 663 besides’ r home.
There are also 11 people in institutional quarantine.
To date, around 6488 people have recovered from this life-threatening virus, with 33 more recoveries recorded on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Guyana has tested about 47,358 people for the novel coronavirus so far.
Of the new cases reported on Wednesday, one was found in Region One (Barima-Waini), seven in Region Three (Essequibo-West Demerara Islands), 21 shocking cases in Demerara-Mahaica, one in Mahaica-Berbice, three in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and one in Upper Demerara-Berbice.
Figures in the other four regions – Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and Region Nine (Takutu’s Upper Essequibo) – remained the same.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), on Wednesday, there were about 99,864,391 confirmed cases worldwide with 2,149,700 deaths.
The WHO also reported Wednesday that in the American Region, that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 44,197,482 while the death toll has increased to 1,015,534.
Since taking office, the People’s Progressive / Civic Party Government (PPP / C) has embarked on a massive testing campaign to ensure that all positive cases, especially asymptomatic cases, are detected.
Nevertheless, health authorities remind all Guyanese to adhere to the COVID-19 Emergency Measures protocols (NO. 13), which are in force until January 31, 2021.
This order emphasizes, among other things, the need to use a face mask correctly and consistently when leaving your home; the importance of maintaining six feet of physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
