– expected to become operational in 1 week

A resuscitation well at Sophia Water Treatment Works is set to go live within a week which will benefit thousands of residents in Sophia, Greater Georgetown and surrounding communities.

GWI CEO Shaik Baksh samples the pump-tested water

This was after a pump test was conducted Tuesday at the location.
Shaik Baksh, CEO of Guyana Water Inc (GWI), visited the facility on Wednesday to see the production capacity of the well.
Activating the well would provide great relief to residents of Sophia, Cummings Lodge, Turkeyen, Pattensen and surrounding areas, who have been experiencing a lower level of service for some time.
“This well has been dormant here for well over three years in this treatment compound so with the fall of the well at North Ruimveldt, we had to move quickly to activate this well and I’m happy to report that the well was functioning properly. and the production is good, ”said the CEO.
He added that customers could look forward to more hours of service and water pressure in their homes, over 10 feet, provided certain factors were taken into account. These include repairing leaks and customer metering to promote conservation.
“I want to call on Sophia residents to settle their outstanding balances in a timely manner because it is quite expensive to operate this plant and provide treated water. This will help GWI help them, ”said Baksh.
Curtis Niles, GWI Regional Manager of GWI, highlighted the need for customers to help the utility identify leaks in Sophia.
“So as we come and as we repair those leaks, the level of service will improve significantly. Due to the improved pressure, interrupted lines will now tend to leak so we will have three to four teams working in the community to repair those leaks and raise your service level, ”he said.
The CEO expressed his satisfaction that the work to activate the well and install the transmission was being carried out by in-house staff, while Engineer Rochelle Hopkinson noted that the well was performing beyond its expectations.
One of the water sources for the communities is the Ruimveldt North No. Two well, which is currently in operation following the collapse of the well casing.
GWI continues to work tirelessly to ensure that customers in the above communities have access to an adequate water supply within the timescale outlined.
