TRUNP National in Bedminster has been removed from the US PGA Championship in 2022 as its organizers felt that using the course as a host would be “detrimental”.
The PGA of America voted to end the deal on Sunday.
US President Donald Trump, who owns the course, has been accused by Democrats and some Republicans of inciting riot last Wednesday in Congress.
A representative for the Trump Foundation said they were “extremely disappointed” by the decision.
“It has become clear that hosting a PGA Championship in Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the American PGA brand and would endanger the PGA’s ability to deliver our many programs and maintain the longevity of our mission,” said PGA America President Jim Richerson.
“It was a decision made to ensure that American PGA and PGA professionals can continue to lead and grow our game for decades to come.”
The course in New Jersey, one of 17 courses worldwide owned by Trump, was scheduled to host the main course in May 2022.
Another of his properties, Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire, Scotland, has not been selected to host an Open Championship by the R&A since Trump purchased the resort in 2014 – with the hosting locations now complete up to 2024.
Ailsa Turnberry’s course has hosted The Open on four occasions since staging the first championship in 1977, most recently when Stewart won Cink in 2009.
R&D chief executive Martin Slumbers said there were “no plans” to stage any of its Turnberry championships and that the governing body “would not do so in the foreseeable future”.
“We will not return until we are convinced that the focus will be on the championship, the players and the course itself and we do not believe that this is achievable in the current circumstances,” said Slumbers.
The PGA of America is now looking for a new host for one of the game’s four biggest men’s individual events.
“We’ve had a wonderful partnership with the PGA of America,” added a Trump representative.
“This is a breach of a binding contract and they have no right to terminate the agreement.”
