Fifty-two-year-old Beverly Persaud and 27-year-old Oswald Yaw are currently on trial before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-person jury for the murder of her husband, Nathan Persaud, in September 2015. They are alleged, on September 10, 2015, in Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, to murder Nathan Persaud under a financial arrangement by Beverly Persaud.
According to reports, a neighbor heard screams from the residence but did not mind investigating until a man was seen leaving the home several minutes later, awakening his suspicions. The other neighbor alerted and proceeded to the house at 66 Herstelling New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, where they discovered Nathan Persaud’s battered body. A brick and hammer were found at the crime scene leading investigators to believe the objects had been used to assassinate Persaud. The man received several stab wounds to his body and his head was passed. The killing of the man was reportedly the result of a bitter property dispute he was having with his wife. Persaud is represented by Attorney-in-Law Ravindra Mohabir, while Attorney-in-Law Rachael Bakker appears on Yaw’s behalf. The case for the prosecution is presented by State Counsel Teriq Mohammed and State Counsel Tiffini Lyken.
