Animal defenders find purpose in their passion

The Animal Adoption and Protection Society (ARAPS), a not-for-profit organization, is one of several in Guyana committed to rescuing animals from cruel conditions and providing them with caring, forever homes.

Established last November, ARAPS, thinking of how many women saw a need for it, celebrated its first birthday a month ago. In establishing ARAPS, the women chose to be voices for the voiceless and use their platform to fight animal cruelty, homelessness and overcrowding.

In an interview with this newspaper, the organization’s Vice President Melissa Ramdeen said: “ARAPS ‘vision is focused on community involvement. We involve the community through education and public awareness of the importance of respecting all animals. We also involve as many people as possible in robbery and neutering campaigns and encourage the adoption of animals. Our primary aim is to protect the health, safety and welfare of all animals. ”
