Constitutional reform: a comment – Stabroek News

In a comment on Future Notes last week, Mr Mike Persaud said, ‘we need a Constitutional Reform idea that would tend or move the people away from this over-racist politics’, and then asked’ Any ideas on this question, … Jeffrey? ‘He then went on to suggest an idea:’ I have proposed that we go back to elect valid candidates from all 53 Electoral Areas (EDs) – they must run for seats in parliament w / o party endorsements. They must be held accountable to their constituents. This should immediately reduce heavy racist voting. And it will reduce the intensity of the nation’s ethnic politics by 50%. Race equality laws will address the other 50% – let the power of the law do the rest. ‘I’m not sure what exactly is meant by over-racialized politics, how Mr Persaud concluded that his suggestion would reduce the intensity of ethnic politics by 50%, what race equality laws he will devise to reduce the other 50%, how it intends to make such laws, and so on.
