Three people arrested for possession of cannabis in WCD raids
KaieteUr news – Three people are now in custody after being found with a quantity of cannabis on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD) in two separate incidents.
On New Year’s Day, a 32-year-old laborer was arrested for possessing over two thousand grams of cannabis. The man has been identified as Mark Brooks, called ‘Polo’ from Mocha, Demerara East Bank.

According to a police report, based on the information received, ranks confronted Brooks at about 11:45hrs at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling and told him they received some information that he was carrying narcotics and would like to carry on search. Police then proceeded to search a black plastic bag that Brooks was holding in his right hand and found two bulky parcels in black plastic bags wrapped in transparent plastic.
The parcels, opened in Brooks’ presence, contained a number of leaves, seeds and stems suspected of being cannabis. The man was arrested and transported to Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station until he was charged. The suspected cannabis weighing 2,265 grams was weighed.
Meanwhile, yesterday a businessman and his wife were arrested sometime thereafter
05:30 hrs at home for possession of over four thousand grams of cannabis.
The couple has been identified as Ryan Joseph, 47 and Chetranie Doodwah, 36, both of Crane, WCD. According to a police report, a team of policemen entered the couple’s home and told him of the information they received that they had narcotics at home.

The businessman was told of the crime that had been committed and told the police “do not weed include my family”. Further checks were carried out around the house and in the backyard under a goldwood tree one of the ranks found a white container with dirt that was suspicious of a cannabis sativa plant at a height of two and a half feet. The businessman was again told of the allegation and told the police “Am I a plant, don’t include my family”. Joseph and his wife were arrested and taken to Parfaite Harmonie Police Station. The suspected cannabis is reported to have weighed a total of 4,236 grams.
The investigation into the issues is ongoing.
