Alexander Village Flat fire breaks – Kaieteur News

Alexander Village apartment fire blasts

The result of yesterday’s fire.

Kaieteur News – Guyana Fire Service was summoned yesterday to extinguish a fire at First Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown. However, despite the enthusiastic efforts of firefighters, a small domicile, located in an apartment building, was reduced.
When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene, firefighters had already extinguished the fire, which started at about 14:00 hours.
In addition to the firefighters, several police ranks were at the scene when a representative of this publication arrived.
According to the tenant of the destroyed residence, boat watcher Ronald Willis, “the high voltage caused the fire… the TV was left plugged in and we got a blackout so when the current came back, the TV sent up in flames. ”
Willis’s gutless home is in the back of a yard and is about four feet away from an apartment building housing three tenants and their families.
Willis told Kaieteur News that he had lived in the back apartment alone for the past five years. The fire, he said, destroyed his TV, fans, mixer, crockery, chair and documents. However, his fridge and gas stove were saved.
While the firefighters were taking statements, it was found that only the interior of the flat concrete structure was damaged. It was revealed that due to swift action by the fire service, the fire did not spread and therefore failed to cause extensive damage to the structure itself.
“I left for work around 12pm and I was at the jetty… around 1:30… the neighbor calls me and tells me how my flat is on fire… so I hurried back home but by the time I got there it was the fire is almost extinguished, ”Willis said.
