One of the pillars of PPP dies – Demerara Waves News News- Guyana

One of the pillars of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Majeed Hussein died after a brief illness, plummeting both his political establishment and his enemies into mourning, party officials confirmed.

Sources said he died of COVID-19, pushing Guyana’s death toll to 168.

The former President and Executive Member of PPP expressed deep sorrow and shock at Majeed’s death. “I’m really scared and upset. we have lost a good and very active trader, a very good organizer, ”said Mr Ramotar.

He described Majeed as a “very useful guy”. “I’m really shocked that this young man has passed on at a time when we need very politically aware people working for the development in Guyana,” said the former President.

Mr Ramotar remembered meeting Majeed for the first time in the 1997 general election campaign and from that time he was considered an organizer.

Noting that Majeed would be missed, Mr. Ramotar extended condolences to party fellows, wife and children my deepest sympathies.

Despite having been a staunch PPP supporter, Majeed got on quite easily and befriended several long-standing supporters of the National People’s Congress Reform (PNCR), many of whom had attended youth conferences international.

Majeed and now head of the Guyana Investment Office (GO-Invest), Dr. Peter Ramsaroop had been in the National Assembly Chamber in December 2018 when the then government legislator Charrandass Persaud voted for a no-confidence motion sponsored by PPP.

Immediately after the vote, Majeed and Dr. escorted. Ramsaroop Persaud through the rear entrance of the Parliament Building into a waiting car.

Majeed was also the key organizer of the PPP’s ‘Guardians of Democracy’ who held round-the-clock vigil outside the Guyana Election Commission and at the Arthur Chung Conference Center before and during the recounting of the March 2, 2020 general votes and elections regional.
