We have to rise above our petty grievances and party affiliation
DEAR EDITOR,
I am ready to defend our mainland as Guyanese. In condemning the decree made by the President of the Bolivian Republic of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, on January 7, 2021, which seeks to unlawfully lay claim to the territory of Essequibo Guyana. I would like to encourage that we all have to come together as Guyanese.
I urge all leaders to meet and address this frivolous, economical and mentally challenging issue, which can affect every Guyanese. The challenge and claim to our land is serious and of concern to the Guyanese public. I note that Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali continues to hold on to the belief that he will not engage with the APNU + AFC Opposition. Meanwhile, the Guyana Private Sector, the Bar Association and Georgetown Chamber of Commerce remain silent among the heads of other organizations, Churches, Masjids and Mandirs remain silent on the issue of Guyana President and AFC Opposition Meeting Leader APNU + or engaged in any conversation to put Guyana first.
If not another time, this is the perfect opportunity for all of Guyana to unite for the benefit of the nation.
I would like to remind all Guyanese that we are open and vulnerable in times of war and the devastation of war involves violence, trauma, poverty and disease that can prevent this country from millions of dollars in development for many years ahead. The scars of war, combined with national and political division, result in unspeakable damage to the fabric of nation-building. History will not see leaders in Guyana kindly in retrospect of our silence for action.
I believe that spit, racial hatred and poison should not replace the life, livelihood and safety of all Guyanese.
Guyanese, we must rise above our petty grievances and Party affiliation to urge our leaders and heads of local and international organizations to forget hateful hatred of each other and put our country first. I firmly believe that unity needs to be fought for credible unity.
I am ready to defend our mainland as Guyanese. Let us unite together to protect our sovereignty.
Incredible things can only be done if we are committed to making them happen.
