NIS is launching a WhatsApp service to help pensioners track contributions

Kaieteur News – The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) has launched an additional Life Certificate service through WhatsApp as part of efforts to help pensioners easily track and query their contributions.
The social security organization announced its new WhatsApp service last Friday. A letter from NIS’s Public Relations Officer, Dianne Baxter, stated that serving the growing pension population is of the highest priority as NIS values elderly contributions.
According to Baxter, serving pensioners and other stakeholders are deeply concerned about the scheme.
“This is especially true for our pensioners who live abroad and are sometimes forced to pay large sums of money to complete their life certificates,” Baxter said in her letter.
He noted that, in line with the policy, the NIS had launched an additional service using video calls for completing life certificates.
“This is done through WhatsApp on a mobile phone. The service will require pensioners to provide a telephone number, email address and is available to people living locally and abroad. The Plan constantly reviews the services provided to ensure the highest quality is given, ”he added.
Baxter announced that six officers were initially identified to provide the service Monday to Thursday between 8:00 hours to 16:30 hours and 8:00 hours to 15:30 hours on Friday. The following cell numbers were assigned to the service, 592-623-2801 592-623-2802 592-623-2803 592-623-2804592-623-2805592-623-2806.
In addition to the WhatsApp service, NIS currently has its Online Contribution Verification System (OCCS), which enables contributors to access the complete record of their contributions online.
NIS says the system is an innovative option for accessing contribution updates as well as making contribution inquiries online. The online interface links to an offline version of the database used by the NIS.
The database is updated quarterly, to show the number of contributions for individuals registered with the NIS.
The newest service was officially launched on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Brickdam NIS Headquarters and Winter Place, Georgetown.
