Kaieteur News – On Sunday, the South Dakota Circuit at Timehri was buzzing with activity as Endurance competitors were allowed to test their engines before the first round of the Guyana Racing and Motor Sports Club (GMR & SC) / Innovation & Endurance Concepts (SIC) on January 31.
The sheer number of vehicles tested with a couple of newcomers to the Endurance scene was an indication that a full grid should be expected when the competition returns to the Timehri racing track after 11 months of inactivity due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Shan Seejattan’s Toyota Levin appeared to be the fastest engine on the track on Sunday with some roaring sprints across the straight track. The sponsored Top Power Racing / Special Auto car will be a force to be reckoned with once it can maintain its performance for the full three-hour racing day.
Balram Auto Mechanics did tests on Integra sponsored by BM SOAT which holds the Endurance lap record time. Service center boss Balram Ramdeo noted that the day was fairly good despite encountering a problem with the gearbox at the end of the workout session.
Ramdeo revealed that he doesn’t worry too much because this is the purpose of practice sessions, weeding out all the annoying problems and with two weeks to go, it is positive that Honda Integra, driven by Rameez Mohamed, will run faster previously with a durability-focused key for the three-hour conflict.
The competitors who attended the Endurance and tuning tests last Sunday also included Aaron Bethune, Nyron Maraj, Roshan Ali, Adrian and his brother Richard Hamid and will be joined by at least a dozen more on the day of the race.
The GMR & SC has clarified that special covid-19 rules and protocols will be provided during the coming week to ensure the safety of drivers, mechanics, officers and everyone involved.
Prospective competitors are reminded of the need for helmets and gloves and those interested in competing are asked to contact the GMR & SC through their Albert Street office.
