Is the PNC fast becoming an obsolete opposition?

DEAR EDITOR,

Kaieteur News – Three notable issues occurred this past week, the opening address of the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali; the Budget presentation by Dr. Ashni Singh and the PNC protest. I refer my comments specifically to the last mentioned act.
Now, the PNC Opposition is in a very serious bind, in that they do not recognize the legitimate existence of the PPP / C Ministry and as such would like to conduct protest actions at various promising events to embarrass the government. They claim that the Irfaan Ali Government has been set up fraudulently and should be resisted at every opportunity available. Be that as it may, it’s very ridiculous of them to go the route they are taking, because, if they have questions with the process by which the PPP / C came to office, then, the decent thing is with your inquiries to the appropriate forum, that is, to a court of law.
They actually did this in an election petition filed some months ago, and we are soon to get into great details. But the PNC can’t wait for those hearings to begin, thinking they probably won’t stand in the spirit of chance with those facts that have watered down, so they have now resigned themselves to a life of scandalous acts to all under the name of protest.
The most recent events in their quest were a Trump invasion of the house with placards and loud shouts of “deception.” They were not there to attend parliament, certainly not, but in the manner of a battle expressed to disrupt cause. It was a yard bird scenario with their non-stop heckling, as a friend of mine stated that “this backyard bird behavior should not be condoned with unnecessary lawlessness,”. A yard fountain belongs to the yard or better still on the side of the road! It was a pathetic display of “yardie” behavior, with the controversial Patterson grading the police barricade, the spikes ripping off his clothes; he could also have torn that part of his anatomy to shreds. This kind of behavior was all happening here in good old Guyana.
And to think of it, the PNC would not be satisfied with such belligerence, would turn again and lie to the public that they were arbitrarily locked out of parliament by the speaker. This is a very egregious comment coming from the main opposition and I call on the speaker to demand an apology from the participants. This kind of behavior is not allowed to flourish here, our parliament is a dignified and sacred place and as such everyone who sits within its walls should act in the proper dignified manner.
So while some of their supporters might run away with the silly idea that they represent a strong political party, most of us prefer to hang our heads in shame to see the degradation we have fallen into. I too join the moral majority in denying them, we see them as desperate people who are in the final stages of becoming obsolete in rapidly evolving Guyana politics.

Respectfully presented,
Neil Adams
