Kaieteur News – Pending the Covid-19 National Task Force on the dotted line to approve, nations riders will be under startup orders at 07: 00hrs on Sunday when the Flying Stars Bike Club hosts its inaugural event this year.
The covid-19 pandemic has severely punished the sport of cycling as the others with very limited activity since it took over the world, last year. In November and December (2020), the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) hosted a Sunday Speed Time Trial Series over three stages as a way to provide some competition to its riders.
Approved by the National Covid-19 Task Force, the event was judged to be a success and We Stand United member Briton John was generally taken first in front of his more experienced partner, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams of Team Evolution and Team Coco’s, Jamual John.
The junior category went to another We Stand united cyclist Aaron Newton ahead of his club friend Alex Leung. Alex Mendes of Roraima Cycling Club claimed the veteran category.
Sunday’s event will pedal away on Carifesta Avenue and proceed to Belfield on the East Coast of Demerara before returning to the start line for the finish. The categories to fight are the open, junior and open veterans. Four sprint prizes will also be available.
It is anticipated that this race will be very exciting as athletes have been doing their own work over the past few weeks to keep fit.
In the meantime, the registration process is currently underway at Chin Chan Cycle Shop, Robb Street and this is to avoid any major congestion on race day as well as following the covid-19 guidelines.
Prizes would be presented to the winners of the respective category next Monday at Chin Chan Bike Shop.
