Constitutional reform: truth and reconciliation

There is a growing demand for a truth and reconciliation commission (TRC), a transitional organization similar to justice, to help break down ethnic divides in Guyana. Transitional justice is a tool for dealing with societies trying to move away from armed conflict and authoritarian control, coming to terms with their history of abuse and creating a justice system that will ensure accountability and prevent atrocities in the future from happening. TRCs became popular following its use in post-apartheid South Africa and because, although a very complex process, it fits with the overarching narrative that we should all be able to sit down, discourse and find to solutions to our problems. Of course, if human conflicts were so easily resolved, there would not have been wars and the apartheid system itself.
