CY&S Minister, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr. is handing over a number of sports equipment during his outreach in Region five last Saturday.

Kaieteur News – Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr. is committed to improving several recreation areas in four communities along the Region Five corridor. He also introduced several sports equipment to the communities to ensure that the Region’s youth participate in productive activities.
During an outreach to Bush Lot, Bath Settlement, D’Edward and Blairmont last Saturday, Minister Ramson assured residents that tangible support would be provided to manage community land and in other areas as needed.
In an invited comment, he told DPI that provisions had always been made for ground improvement, through line items in the national budget.
However, he said, “No one, especially the previous administration, ever saw well that they should visit these grounds, if they allocate resources to these grounds, to know how they can best make decisions to allocate these resources. ”
Minister Ramson said that this Ministry is doing more now with the resources available, despite the fact that most of the sums in the last budget were spent.
“In fact, as much as three-quarters of the budget may have already been spent so even though we only had a fraction of the resources, we’re doing a lot more because that’s not the amount of money you have, but how do you use your money, ”he said.
Minister Ramson believes that the people want to build a network of partnerships, which is now being explored in a meaningful way.
“So I’m very pleased that in trying to do things like this, we have been able to awaken a nation-building spirit through communities and community participation that never existed before or was never really explored from the front. It already existed, but it had never been explored before, ”he said.
The Minister promised that money would be made available to upgrade land with the necessary facilities requested by residents. In the meantime, several people expressed appreciation for Minister Ramson’s intervention.
Ms Seeta Palloo, a student at the University of Guyana, usually runs classes for children at Blairmont Community Center Field. She has made several requests for improvements to the facilities and was pleased that the Minister had promised to address her concerns.
“I’m very excited. I’m very grateful. He promised us many things that I think will help with youth development and sports development in the community, and I think that is what Blairmont needs, especially at a time like this when you have a lot of social issues. I think this will keep the youths engaged and will be beneficial and fruitful for Blairmont members, ”he said.
Mr Heralall Darasan, a cricketer from Bush Lot is also optimistic that conditions on his community’s playground will improve. “Over the years, we have had many problems with management and also the facility is very poor and I am very pleased and I welcome the Minister for taking this time off and helping us get things done firmly and I applaud whatever it is that we do and we are very grateful as a community. ”
Mr Krishna Sewlall of Bath Settlement, meanwhile, said his community also welcomed the Minister’s intervention.
“For a long time we have not had a Minister for Youth and Sport visit this community. This basis has been neglected for the last five years so I am happy that the Minister is here and has already made some commitment to improving the earth, ”he said.
Mr Sewall noted that more than 1,200 young people would benefit from ground floor improvements. (DPI)
