A police sergeant remained in custody for trying to kill a woman

Remanded: Collin Whyte.

Shot: Shonetta James.

Kaieteur News – Police sergeant Collin Whyte made his initial appearance at Blairmont Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer the charge of attempted murder.

He appeared before the Magistrate, Peter Hugh, and was charged with Attempted Murder on Shonetta James, in violation of Section 103 (c) of the Criminal Law (Crime) Act Chapter 8:01.
He was not required to plead and was remanded in prison until March 2, 2021.
Initial reports are that the shooting took place in Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice.

Kaieteur News understands that Whyte and James have been in a relationship for four years and that their union has produced two children. According to a police report, Whyte went to the woman’s house on Friday, February 12, 2021, although she had previously told him the relationship was over. This was reported due to their ongoing misunderstanding.

It was revealed that the two had argued over the decision, and smashed Whyte, who was in possession of a service gun, and released a round in her direction, striking her to her neck.
After realizing what she had done, the woman rushed to Fort Wellington Hospital and left. The woman was examined by a doctor and then transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she underwent surgery and was admitted. She has since been released.

Subsequently, Whyte was closely arrested and told of the allegations, which he denied.
