Suspect surrendered after killing cousin during ‘birthday bash’

Kaieteur News – Police have arrested a man who murdered his cousin during a family dispute Sunday night.
Dead is 25, Reaz Mohamed named “Boyo,” a fisherman, from Section ‘A,’ D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice. The deed was allegedly carried out by his 26-year-old cousin, Rocky Harper, known as “Dadadoo.” He was said to be armed with a knife.
The incident is said to have occurred sometime around 18:30 hours. on Sunday in Lot 1, Section A, D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice. Reports are that the cousins, along with other relatives, gathered in Lot 1, Section A, D’Edward Village, where they drank alcohol, when the deceased began using foul language against his father and in the process began to hit him several times work. The suspect allegedly tried to talk to the deceased, but continued to behave in the same way. Kaieteur News was told that the suspect then became agitated and armed himself with a knife.

He then allegedly split the deceased’s neck and escaped.
The dead man’s sister, Reniza Grant, told reporters that the celebrations were being held in honor of her birthday, which is Saturday. The festivities, he said, continued until Sunday. She added that she left to drop home some friends who had fallen asleep and then received a phone call that her brother was fighting with their father “because he doesn’t want the music to break away.” She noted that an argument had erupted between her father and the deceased at some point.
“My dad and he scrambled and then I got the call that he was bleeding and when I came, the police were at the scene and my brother was lying there,” he said.
Grant believes the law was not intentional, but that it was “just skateboarding and everything got in the way.” She described her brother as loving, caring and fond of music. He also described the suspect as “a face of shame and don’t get himself into problems. The two grew up together but I never see him in that state; he is currently in a state of shock. ”
The deceased was subsequently taken to Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at a doctor. The body is currently in the mortuary of the said hospital awaiting Post Mortem.
