Serial sexual predator in the middle

Dear Editor,

The article is referenced under the heading, “A ‘Hispanic woman raped, sodomized, battered as a neighbor rushed for help” (KN March 1). I read most of the story, and it was terrifying; an enraging one, too.

The contents dried up and then sick. Man preaching sex workers; this choice of trade means nothing. His mother, who speaks limited English, has to work the streets and tie up his goods. It is always a high-risk profession, but it in no way justifies what followed in the sheer cruelty of the protracted physical and sexual quarrel. I believe that some serious psychological damage has been caused to this unfortunate woman. It does not matter about her business, as it is very busy and one that I am prepared to support as a better option that robs and breaks people; that does not begin to describe the harrowing nature of this woman’s distress.

It is with great concern that the man who committed this act of torture – many of them – was arrogant enough to reveal that he had done similarly to a couple of dozen women before. There is disbelief that this may have been under the radar for so long, while allowing for male exaggeration. Even accounting for that, something tells me that this predator is a serial one that poses great danger to the red light district in general and foreign-born street operators in particular. I do not believe that this bruised and severely beaten woman is her first victim. And unless caught early, and given away forever, it can be confidently said that it will not be her last. Being foreign (‘Spanish’) shouldn’t matter in the slightest; it should also not be legally or illegally applicable; and the fact that she was engaged in work that makes so-called respectable people look down their noses, and the sounds of utter disapproval must have no place in this beastly event. Think about this: when it can’t attack foreign-looking evening women, then it doesn’t stretch to believe that Guyanese women involved in such work could be the next targeted ones.

As if not all of the above were troubling enough, the KN article also pointed out that the police officers who accidentally accidentally rammed her clothes (‘Cops peel her clothes’) while this bleeding, obviously badly beaten, wounded and traumatized woman. At the moment when she needed an urgent helping hand, she received another sharp psychological stripping and degradation. After being tortured beyond belief by a sick stranger, she is then insulted and humiliated by those, who must have seen that they had an emergency on their hands. For the man to be handcuffed, and released quickly, he does not build up into a positive image for Guyana Police. The only development that would provide some satisfaction is to learn that this stalker and attacker is quickly brought to justice.

Correctly,
Lall GHK
