Kaieteur News – A 53-year-old and 21-year-old man was charged Wednesday for stealing a Demerara man from East Bank from his motorcycle, but his issue was later dismissed after the virtual complainant asked not to take any further action he told the court he wanted his motorcycle to be brought back.
Khemraj Shaffie, of Hadfield Street, Lodge, and Daniel John, of West Front Road, West Ruimveldt, made their first court appearance at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan where they were charged with the offense of robbery with violence. .
The two men pleaded not guilty to the charge, and claimed that on Feb. 27, in the vicinity of D’Urban Park had robbed the victim of his $ 250,000 CK4912 motorcycle, one Samsung mobile phone valued at $ 25,000 and $ 1,500 in cash.
However, the man told the court he wanted his motorcycle returned to him, and the matter was therefore dismissed.
According to a police report, on the night of the incident, the man was riding his motorcycle at a slow rate on Vlissengen Road, when he stopped at the traffic lights at the junction of Homestretch Avenue and Vlissengen Road. The victim further told police that a man had jumped to him in the back of his motorcycle and demanded that he ride to D’Urban Park. He recalled doing as instructed and upon arrival, he was confronted by three other suspects who stole his bicycle, mobile phone and money. After the offenders had escaped, the matter was reported and an investigation launched.
