Stem Guyana ‘Learning Pods’ move on to the challenges of delivering education

Can the educational outcomes of vulnerable children be improved through an integrated approach to the curriculum? STEMGuyana and partners are ready to give it a go.

This year’s UNICEF report on school closures states that fourteen countries around the world remained largely closed between March 2020 and February 2021. Two-thirds of those countries are in Latin America and the Caribbean; overall, nearly ninety-eight (98) million schoolchildren. Guyana is listed among the affected countries.

The most vulnerable children, especially those who have failed to gain access to distance learning, are at greater risk of not returning to the classroom. Some of them (who knows?) Could be forced to marry children or child labor. In fact, the challenge of preventing this event may well take a ‘miracle’. Needless to say, the impact of this on the social growth and economic development of these affected countries, including Guyana, can be long-term and devastating.
