Let equality defeat everyone
DEAR EDITOR,
Kaieteur News – I read with interest a letter written by one, Vishnu Bisram on March 01, 2021 under the heading, “Payment of pension to all eligible and deserving persons including revolutionaries” which stated, “Anyone who served the state or any of its agencies in any function as diplomats, MPs, in the media, laborer, etc., entitle them to a pension which is the rule in a developed country. ”So Editor, with reference to the above, I am writing on behalf of all former Toshaos. Being democratically elected by the residents of the villages by ballot, Toshaos was made by the State or Government of the day to be Ex-officio or Justice of the Peace or Rural Constables, etc. We were paid a salary, leaving behind. every substance we have and throw every effort into our villages and communities to improve them. This past election period went from two years to even four years and now goes from three years to six years if re-elected. When the terms are finished, most of us return to our normal lives, worse than before – the house deteriorated, farms disappeared, and to add to this, we may not have the strength, excluding resources, to start again. Therefore, it is only fair that those democratically elected officials, especially former Toshaos, are entitled to a pension after their term ends. Let equality defeat everyone.
On behalf of all Toshaos,
Before Toshao of SAVC
