No major assemblies and no parties as COVID-19 cases rise to 56 in Region Six – Regional Chairman

Kaieteur News – District Six has been put under the spotlight after COVID cases continue to rise across many areas of the ancient county. At yesterday’s monthly statutory meeting in District Six of the Regional Democratic Council, Regional Chairman David Armogan revealed that there are currently 56 active cases of COVID-19 in the region and it is expected that the cases may rise after a four-day Easter holiday approaches ben.

Mentioning that the active sugar estates in the region have been beefing up their precautionary measures to ensure workers are protected, he noted that in the midst of an increase in cases nationwide, District Six is ​​also following with a sharp spike.

As such, Armogan said “we all need to be careful and take this seriously. If you notice there has also been an increase in deaths nationally so this is not straightforward and we all need to make sure when we leave our homes that we wear our masks, clean up regularly and make sure all the customs others listed by the MOH are taken seriously. The curfew will remain from April 1st until the 30th. ”

He further emphasized that “big parties and gatherings should not happen … and what is likely to happen during the Easter holidays always happens when there is a spike in COVID cases. So we appeal to people, be careful. ”Armogan added, that Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, Director General of the Ministry of Health, informed him on Wednesday night that the Liliandal location where COVID patients are being detained and treated, is currently being crowded with patients and as such, essential that Berbians exercise responsible behavior so that the systems are not overwhelmed.

Usually every year, thousands of Guyanese from different parts of the country flock to Beach No. 63 for the annual kite flying activities, however, due to the pandemic the beach has closed and people are advised to celebrate Easter home.

“I suspect beach 63 will not be opened for a regular party on Easter Monday because that should not happen. I appeal to councilors. You also have a responsibility for your constituency to make sure they are safe and one way to do this, is to educate them on how to stay safe, ”said Armogan. The Chair also encourages people to get vaccinated.

In the meantime, the Regional Health Officer for District Six Dr. Vishalya Sharma has noted that no epicenter has been identified at present but the confirmed cases have been spread across different areas in Region Six. He added that the 13 sites were still operational and the GDCs had been assisting with the move.

“We’ve also started the closing in sessions so we’ve been to several communities. The private sector is involved and helping us, ”he said.
