‘Pink slip’ or not, the cash grants team will revisit communities – PM

Kaieteur News – Georgetown, Guyana – (April 17, 2021) Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips this afternoon assured the residents of Paradise on the East Coast of Demerara that all homes lost during the first round of the COVID-19 money distribution relief, will still be eligible for the grant and will receive it during the second phase of delivery that has begun.
He was in the area to encourage residents to use the community-based vaccination facility and to listen to their concerns. Responding to a resident who said that her home was not in receipt of the grant or the ‘pink slip’ (given to secondary households or renters) during the initial distribution, the First Minister urged her to reach out to ‘ team on their return to the community. He assured residents that the Government has pledged and is committed to ensuring that every home receives the $ 25,000 COVID-19 relief cash grant.
“Pink slip or not, the team is coming back to every community, we’ve already started in the inner regions and we’re going to work our way to the Coast, the money is there … we said us every home, it will happen, they are. comes back to you. ”
Residents during the session raised additional concerns about community safety and infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and street lights. The First Minister also listened to them in a community church for a walk around the village. He committed to solving challenges where possible, but also encouraged them to work together in community groups.
“We are expecting some discussion at the leadership level in the community… You have a Co-operative Society in place and I will be talking to Minister Joseph Hamilton and after he has come to work with you, we are here to have a discussion with you and help you, because this Co-operative spirit is important … I’m telling you that you can have a Co-operative Society and Community Development Council (CDC) and both groups can work together. “
A resident of Paradise, Mr Randolph McPherson, said he was pleased with the outcome of the meeting and was confident that the Prime Minister would honor his commitments.
“I am happy that the First Minister came to discuss many of our problems and I am completely content with what he said and I know that many of the issues raised will be resolved.”
